This is something to keep a look out for when using the social/emotional learning approach with special needs children. These programs can easily backfire if it is not dealt with in a sensitive matter. So in order to you must be aware of sensory processing and the systems that impact self management. These are Vestibular, which is our movement sense. Tactile, our touch sense. Proprioceptive, receptors in our muscles and joints and visual and auditory which involves light and sound.
