Ever since I came across this topic for our project, I thought about how it can benefit a student's mental health. As a student myself I know how important it is to maintain mental health with the stress of homework, attendance, and engagement taking most of your attention. Since social/emotional learning is a way of creating a relationship with students, does it benefit students' mental health as well?
" [...]numbers of children struggling with significant mental health difficulties that affect their success in school and life" This is so true. The thought of being successful in life and school is a big thing that us college students deal with. It eats us up, and for those who succumb to the negatives of over thinking, it deteriorates their mental health.
"Research shows SEL is associated with a positive impact on important mental health variables that increase children’s attachment to school and motivation to learn and reduce risky behaviors." Social/ Emotional learning has positive effects with mental health. Students build relationships with their teachers and other students through assignments and projects. But more importantly they grow to enjoy being in that learning environment. This eliminates that stress of wanting academic success and life success because it all comes easy with a welcoming and fun environment for students.
