As we mentioned before, we are not against traditional or academic learning. The approach is well rounded and may work better for certain students. People think of social/emotional learning as this completely separate way of learning. Although the concepts are different, that does not mean that they would not work well together.
"when added to academic learning, that provides educators with the possibility of capturing the balance children need." Connecting social/ emotional and academic learning means creating a balance. I love the engagement and relationships you can build with the s/el approach, however, you need the structure of academic learning as well.
"For children to become literate, responsible, nonviolent, drug-free, and caring adults, those of us who are educators, parents, business leaders, and policymakers must think cohesively and carefully about how to address this challenge and not divert attention to other goals." I am not saying that too much of social/emotional learning is a bad thing, but the thought of preparing a student to be all of these things is great.
